Welcome, Everyone!

If you're reading this, there is a high probability that you are either my family or one of my closest friends and you probably know me quite well. However, if you somehow do not fall into one of these two categories... Hello! My name is Bec and a few years ago, I decided I wanted to go on a big road trip--the bigger the better. What was initially conceived as a solo journey across the country became a much more manageable, exciting, and (to my parent's relief) safe trip when my friend Grace was just as interested in the prospect of this road trip as I was. Together, we've spent the last year shutting down coffee shops researching locations, calculating expenses, booking stays, and thoroughly ballooning our poor little google spreadsheet.

And now this trip we've spent the last year planning for is finally here! We would not be able to do this without the help from our families. From allowing us to stay in their homes to sponsoring some of our plans and loaning us supplies (including the car), I am so grateful for everyone's support in fulfilling this dream of mine.

Some things to know about this blog:

1. We will be updating as often as we can on the road, and you'll likely see us playing with the format as we go.

2. I will also be sending out a weekly email newsletter with links to posts and photos from our most recent stops! If interested, please supply your email at the bottom of any page of this site to be added to the list. (Note: I'm managing emails personally, so you will not be spammed if you sign up. It's just a way to keep those who what to be notified in the loop.)

3. I do not plan to be very accessible while on this trip. While of course I'll be reading my texts and emails and sending "proof of life" updates to parents, a major purpose of this trip is exercising and exploring my independence. I hope it goes without saying that I love and appreciate all support and interest shown by my family and friends, but this site will be my primary method of communication for the next six weeks. I'm not planning to respond or reach out to many people individually with updates.

True to our nature as twenty two year-olds, I'm currently writing this introduction as we're each scrambling to get the last of our affairs in order before setting off. It's later than I'd care to admit and we're settled in Grace's living room on our laptops--me publishing this blog and Grace working out the last of her med school applications. I've been trying in vein to come up with a unique way of explaining how exciting this point in our lives feels, but ultimately, I don't want to reinvent the wheel or preach to the choir or any other phrase as cliche as the notion that being a young adult and having the whole world ahead of you is exciting. Ultimately, I want to express that this: we can't wait to hit the road and set off on this journey. If you're still reading this far, thank you for taking this journey with us.
